Greetings! After the departure from format in last week's letter, we are back to business as usual on the Tuesday after Labor Day.

The New Yorker

Who will be at ArchLIGHT Summit next week? I'll be at the WILD Welcome Party Wednesday night and then at the WILD booth the next day from 11-12 and 2-3. If you'll be in Dallas for the show and have some spare time, consider signing up to volunteer at the booth as well. On Thursday, join Kelly Roberts at 11:30 for her Commercial Interior Lighting docent tour and Andrea Hartranft for her tour Playing With Color at 1:30. Then at 3:30 join Alana Shepherd for her educational session Foster a Safe Inclusive Environment for LGBTQIA+ People. I haven't traveled for work since last fall so I'm VERY excited to see everyone.

The Weekly Three 1. Something about anticipatory nostalgia: Perhaps this is something you experienced during this last long weekend of summer. It is"that sense of sadness we feel about having to leave a beautiful place while we’re still there or stop doing something wonderful before it actually ends". 2. Something about wearing shorts at work: I'm willing to wager that in the past couple of weeks you've heard about quiet quitting and about Malcolm Gladwell's comments about remote work. The latter is mentioned in this essay about wearing shorts to the office, a laxity that is emblematic of the shift in attitude about the workplace since the pandemic began. 3. Something about the 4-day work week experiment: Thank you Alexandra for sending this video about a PR firm trying out the 4-day work week. How are they fitting five days of work into four? Has it been successful? Policies like "do not disturb" lights and strict meeting time limits help keep everyone as efficient as possible, a must when cutting down working hours. We know how long it takes to get back on task when interrupted, so what other policies would help? What ways do you protect your time while in the office? Thanks for taking the time to read, Amber
