Happy Monday,
Welcome to the last week of April! If you missed it last week, The Likability Trap was chosen by Catherine as our May read. She will be hosting our meeting towards the end of the month with more information to follow.
The Weekly Three
1. Something about self-sabotage: Last week, BOSLady and Inherent Worth founder Mandy Waryasz had an article about self-sabotage published on Free to Spiel. The article is a transparent account of her experience with negative self talk and what helped her escape the self defeating spiral. Not many people take an idea and follow through with it like she has with Inherent Worth, making the story she shares all the more incredible. Be sure also to check out the most recent edition of her zine and follow her project on Instagram. So proud of you Mandy!!!

2. Something about joy from Maria Popova: If her name sounds familiar to you but you can't quite place it, Popova was included in last summer's read Daily Rituals: Women at Work by Mason Currey. Every entry on her website is a delight but I found this reflection on joy to be particularly uplifting - it feels appropriate to share as spring opens up for us. Also see her literary jukebox where she matches songs to literary quotes.

3. Something to introduce you to The Likability Trap: I'll leave you with a review of the book to give you an overview of what topics are covered. Our last book was about what changes to make to get someone to like you. This book explores why we feel the pressure to be liked, how we all contribute knowingly or unknowingly to this culture, and what it will really take to change that. The author's conclusion is not dissimilar to that which we reached two Tuesdays ago. We don't need to change - the standards do.
Thank you for taking the time to read,
Amber
