Happy Tuesday BOSLadies!

I hope that you all enjoyed an extended holiday weekend and are back to work feeling refreshed and inspired. If you’re not quite there (hey, it happens), maybe this letter will give you a boost J

At last week’s meeting, it was proposed that March be our “Bring a BOSLady” month. We are challenging you to think of someone in your life who is totally crushing it to join us. To make it easier for our guests, we are not reading a specific book this month and ask instead that attendees bring something inspirational to share. Matt has kindly offered to host the Tuesday, March 10th meeting at the offices at Available Light. A calendar invite will be sent out with the exact time and address, as well as a conference number for anyone who wants to join remotely. Thank you Matt!

The Weekly Three

1. Something about options: Is presenting options to clients a weakness? Is it stronger to only go in with one idea and pitch that as THE plan, take it or leave it? I never had considered this question and it came up during last week’s meeting. This article is anti-option and is specific to the design world. But is this design choice that your client is making any different psychologically from the hundreds of other choices they will make that day? I recommend this article if you want a crash course in the psychology of choice.

2. Something from Madame Architect: Thank you Kseniia for sending over Making Collections: Jennifer Bonner on Big Experiments and Liberating Opportunities. I’m still trying to wrap my head around this one.

3. Something about the Baltimore Museum buying only women’s art in 2020: Christopher Bedford, the director of the museum, responded to some of the initiative’s criticism with the below. Read the full interview here. Thank you Alexandra!

Probably the level of attention garnered by me and this museum in this announcement is itself reflective of the systemic sexism we’re trying to combat with this policy. That doesn’t mean that I would change my position. I still believe we’re doing the right thing, but it does throw into high relief the fact that others have been doing the right thing for many years without the acknowledgement that we’re getting.”
