Happy 2020 BOSLadies!

Since many of us were on vacation for the time around and between end of the year holidays, I postponed the letter until today so as not to add to the inbox load on a first day back. You all should have received the calendar invite for the February meeting – thank you Catherine for sending that out and thank you Alexandra for hosting. Since we did not choose a book to read during December, we are not having a January meeting. I hope that everyone had a restful holiday season and are feeling invigorating and ready to go in this new year. If not, maybe some of the below will help J

The Weekly Three

1. Something to encourage you to chill out: Florence William’s article in Outside magazine entitled “Your 2020 Burnout Recovery Plan”. Overworking ourselves isn’t anything new. It’s not even new for us to talk about. We know that too many productivity apps can actually be counterproductive and that many of us equate our productivity with our self-worth. What I specifically liked about this article is that she talks so much about walking as an antidote to burnout.

“I could see what Wordsworth and Thoreau knew, and what millennials like Odell are rediscovering—that cruising around at the pace of human locomotion may be the perfect riposte to modern life.”

2. Something to listen to and make you feel rebellious: Paula Scher’s interview with Clever. I confess that I did not know who she was until I read the podcast description but I’ve been looking for more patron saints of female and strength and Scher certainly fits the bill.

3. Something that could be useful to reach flow state more often: Now that I’m working remotely, I’m looking for ways to get myself into a flow while removed from the office environment that I’m used to. I’ll get in the zone and then an email alert will pop up or my phone will buzz and my head will be on a swivel. This method is one way to cut down on the external noise. BOSLadies have talked about a very similar tactic and we have acknowledged that the design industry specifically makes 100% accessibility a must for clients.

Have a great week!
