Good Morning Everyone!

I am so excited that we are now into our second year of book club. This is a big accomplishment, and I look forward to many more years of thought provoking discussions with this group. Thank you all for everything that you have contributed, this is a great community. Hopefully I will see some of you this evening for a discussion of The Empathy Exams. While I was reading I enjoyed this post on the difference between sympathy and empathy.

The Weekly Three

1. Sallie Krawcheck said recently that we are in a "she-cession". In an interview Krawcheck discussed the ways that the current situation is having a disproportionate negative impact on women. The term “she-cession” was originally used by C. Nicole Mason , the head of the Institute of Women’s Policy Research.

2. NASA has renamed their headquarters in Washington D.C. after Mary W. Jackson. Jackson had a trailblazing career, becoming the first Black female engineer at NASA is 1958. One of my favorite parts of her very inspiring biography is the mention that she “worked hard to address the hiring and promotion of the next generation of female mathematicians, engineers and scientists.”

3. LinkedIn has a new feature that lets you record and display the pronunciation of your name. I can see this being a very useful tool.

And as a bonus, something beautiful to look at. With travel still limited I am daydreaming about going to faraway places. I am blown away by the work of Zaria Forman.
