Hello BOSLadies,
Hopefully everyone received Jenn's email for next month's meeting! For our April read, she has selected Why Men Love Bitches, published as a relationship book but whose content "translates really well into our male-dominated field". She also pointed out that the term "bitch" is being used in the reclaimed sense, not as a derogative. Reading reviews on Amazon and Goodreads, regardless of how readers felt about the book as a whole, there is a common consensus that the first half is all about empowerment and self-respect. Looking forward to digging in!
The Weekly Three
1. Something about today's WILD event: Hopefully this information isn't reaching you too late but today WILD is hosting a progressive lunch for International Women's Day and our very own Brittany Lynch is a host for the 12pm MST session! This year's theme is #ChoosetoChallenge. Register using the link provided and see you there!
2. Something about the resurgence of Why Men Love Bitches: Our book of the month is back on weekly bestseller lists almost 20 years after it was published thanks to TikTok - influencers are focusing mostly on the dating tips and how they hold up from 2002. The first discussion that I think the book sparks is in the title, the use of the term "bitch". This doesn't seem to be something worth addressing by those posting content on TikTok. Does the fact that it isn't even worth discussing mean that it's fully reclaimed? We read about this previously in Wordslut.
3. Something about Women's History Month: If you like to consume your media via audio, celebrate Women's History Month with Fierce: Stories of Women Who Changed the World.

Thank you all for taking the time to read,
Amber
