Good Monday Evening BOSLadies!
Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night for our November meeting 6:30pm at Lam Partners, BYOB, W(ine), S(nacks), etc. We will be discussing the second half of Radical Candor by Kim Scott. If you need a refresher on it, watch this.
Even though we are meeting tomorrow, I still would like to share three things with you as usual.
Something about designing for joy: Yesterday, I spent the majority of my day moving into a new space. I need this new space to be void of negativity. I need this new space, as Marie Kondo would put it, to spark joy. I’d like this new space to be so full of things that evoke positive emotions, that when I enter it I’ll feel better without even trying. This week’s episode of Clever podcast happened to be on this topic – how you can consciously design to influence your unconscious. The guests argue that when certain elements are embedded into a built environment, they can “trigger positive emotions in a very simple and fluid way”. They say that joy lives in moments; it’s immediate; it’s simple. Their point is that it’s actually very easy to cause joy and to curate that experience for other people with no effort on their part. I personally find this to be very encouraging.
Something about how kids (and scientists) draw: A short article from Austin Kleon’s website entitled Why It’s Hard to Fake Kids’ Drawings. More of a thought provoker than you might first assume

Something about how a company’s headquarters are geared towards “diversity, inclusion and belonging”: Thank you to Alexandra for sending this my way! Watch this video from Nasdaq about Compass and how they’re disrupting both the industry they’re in and the social structure of a tech firm.
See you all soon!
