Good (dark and chilly) Monday Evening!
I hope that everyone enjoyed the extra hour yesterday and that we’re all feeling pretty good in spite of pre-5pm darkness. If not, we can bemoan the change together next Tuesday the 12th from 6:30-8:30pm at Lam Partners for our November meeting (thanks Lam!!). We will be covering the second half of Radical Candor by Kim Scott. As always, please come even if you don’t even like reading and just want to hang out. Everyone is welcome

Our weekly three:
Something less traditional to improve your leadership abilities On theme with our October/November read, this article is about how to be a better leader, but from a totally different angle. This connects well with the somewhat counter-intuitive discussion that we had at Available Light about setting boundaries and the importance of having a life outside of work.
Something to remind you of the impact public spaces have on mental health This episode of the podcast America Dissected is entitled All the Lonely People, Where Do They All Belong?. The host argues this: If there is a public space, people will go there. If they go there, they probably will make friends. If they make friends, they probably will be happier. Therefore, we need more public spaces in order to increase our collective mental wellbeing.

Reader, take pause. The majority of us on this email list have at some point helped design a public space. We usually talk about the project’s impact on the community as a whole but I think it’s also pretty cool to think about the positive impact that your design has at an individual level. It’s a good thought
Something to make you rethink those work tasks that just have to get done even though you don’t enjoy them Yes, another chart and article from Brendan Leonard.
